Are we covering up God's grace?
In his book, Grace is Greater, Kyle Idleman says, "Our ability to appreciate grace is in direct correlation to the degree to which we acknowledge our need for it."
We as Christians tend to minimize and justify our sins. This is a problem.
God's grace is beautiful. But, in order to appreciate just how beautiful it is, we must recognize and acknowledge the ugliness of our own sin. Romans 3:23 says, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
The word "all" there includes me and it includes you. How do you respond to those allegations? Our tendency is to try to cover up our transgressions. But, in doing so, we miss out on the beauty of God's forgiveness. We are covering up his Amazing Grace.
“We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that he should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at his love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.” – Brennan Manning, Ragamuffin Gospel
